Carrville is a warm and welcoming church with a lively congregation. Worship is at the centre of the life of any church and so it is with Carrville. Each Sunday we gather in church to worship God, to listen to His word and to seek to understand how we must serve Him in the world. Our new church opened in 2004 and it is an exciting place to meet and worship, and visitors are always welcome.
We meet for worship on Sundays (10.30am and 6pm) and Tuesdays (9.45am). During the Sunday morning service the children join with us in worship for the first part of the service before leaving to continue in their own act of worship and activities. There is a crèche available for under 3s, Play & Pray (for younger children) and Friends of God (older children). We regularly hold all age worship where all the church family meets together. Once a month we have a joint service with the congregation of the parish church of St Mary Magdalene in Belmont.
The Pram Club meets Monday and Thursday afternoons (1pm-3pm) and is an informal (sometimes hectic!) social gathering of parents and guardians with their young children. All are welcome to this.
Rainbows meet on Tuesday (6-7pm) and Friday (5.15-6.30pm). This is open to girls aged 5 - 7 years and provides a structured programme of fun activities.
Brownies meet on Mondays and Tuesdays (5.30pm - 7pm) and enables girls aged 7 - 10 years to work for interest badges developing a wide range of useful skills.
Guides meet on Wednesday (7.15-9pm) when girls aged 10 - 15 years follow their own organised programme leading to further self development as individuals and members of a team.
Junior Church meets each Sunday morning where children progress through the three groups, each enjoying its own distinctive pattern of activity. There is a crèche for under 3s, Play and Pray is for younger children and Friends of God is for older children.
The Bible Reading and Study Group meets to read and think carefully about the Bible and God's message for us.
Ladies Circle meets on Tuesday afternoons (1.45–3.00pm) when speakers share on a wide range of topics. This is a friendly group of ladies of all ages sharing fellowship and is open to everyone.
Ladies Keep Fit Group meets on Wednesday morning (10-11am). There is a programme of exercise for all ages designed to maintain supple joints and limbs without over exertion.
The Circuit Cell 20s-40s group includes people who worship at Carrville. This group meets on a weekly basis to share in prayer, friendship, bible study, worship and discussion.
Eco-group – This is a group of people who are interested in exploring ways that as a church we can develop our stewardship of the earth.
The Ladies Craft Group meets on Thursday mornings (10- 12 noon). Visiting speakers with particular skills add to the variety of project work in this gathering.
Saturday Coffee Morning (10-11.30am) - This takes place on the 1st Saturday of each month in aid of our two charities. Gifts for the cake stall and bring-and-buy are greatly appreciated. This year we are supporting the Great North Air Ambulance Service and Bishop Joseph Michucki in his Miathene Circuit in Kenya.
Other groups meeting on the church premises include an Embroidery Group, Belmont Ladies Choir and several U3A groups including music, poetry and art appreciation.
Carrville Methodist Church lies on the eastern side of Durham City, and is easily accessible from J62 of the A1M.
If you are traveling from the centre of Durham, follow the A690 signposted Sunderland and take the first exit signposted to Belmont/Dragonville. Follow this road over the A690 and continue straight on at the mini-roundabout. Bear to the left where the road splits at the Anglican Church (St Mary Magdalene). The Methodist Church is situated on the right hand side approximately ¼ mile further on.
If you are traveling from Sunderland along the A690, turn left at the traffic lights signposted Belmont / Carrville (adjacent to the Shell petrol station and opposite the park & ride) just before you reach the A1M. Follow this road round into Carrville, and the church can be found about ¼ mile along the high street on the left hand side, soon after Barclays bank.
