Introduction

Methodist meetings were first held in the area in the early 1870s after the sinking of a pit shaft at Esh New Winning in 1865. The present church was built in 1932 following the union of the Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist Societies. It is a substantial building and was a remarkable achievement at a time of depression and considerable local hardship. A wide variety of groups have gathered and dissolved over the years. At one time the church even had its own tennis courts!

Central to the life of the church, throughout its life, has been a strong and enduring faith in Jesus.

We have a large and pleasant building in Esh Winning with beautiful views across the Deerness river. We offer a warm welcome to all visitors.

There is a well established membership in the church at Esh Winning, with additional worshippers regularly joining us.
